Web Accessibility Specialists and the
International Association of Accessibility Professionals

The International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) is the largest professional membership organization in the world focused on accessibility. Accessibility professionals from around the world come together in IAAP to define, promote and improve the accessibility profession through networking, education and certification.

With the adoption of WCAG 2.0 and 2.1 in many countries, there is an increased demand for web developers, designers and other professionals with hands-on knowledge of web accessibility standards and guidelines. With this growth comes the need for an objectively verified level of expertise. The IAAP's Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS) exam validates an individual's web accessibility competence.

Among the IAAP's various certifications, their WAS certification requires the most in-depth, hands-on understanding of the technology and it application.

This credential is intended for accessibility professionals who are expected to evaluate the accessibility of existing content or objects according to published technical standards and guidelines, and provide detailed remediation recommendations. They are expected to know and use the relevant technologies, not merely be aware of them.
